He was the King of Pop, but Michael Jackson's influence crossed all genres. The Boot has gathered reaction from country stars on the passing of a music legend.
"'Thriller' was the first album I ever bought with my own money. Michael Jackson was truly a pioneer." -- Joe Nichols

Joe Nichols joined such megastars as Jon Bon Jovi, Rob Thomas, Andy Williams, Crosby, Stills and Nash, James Taylor, Sir Tom Jones and dozens more at last week's 40th Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards in New York. Nichols, who is Broadway bound when the production of Pure Country opens in January, 2010, was asked to perform at the prestigious New York event. Nichols sang the Rodgers and Hammerstein composition "If I Loved You," from the musical Carousel to honor Maxyne Lang. Lang had earlier in the evening been presented the Abe Olman Publisher Award. She is president of the highly successful independent publishing company Williamson Music and Williamson Music International, the global publishing divisions of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization.

Joe Nichols received this letter from the mother of Marine shortly after his trip to Iraq to play for our soldiers.

All proceeds benefit the Opry Trust Fund, which has for more than 40 years assisted members of the country music community in need of help with medical bills, living expenses, utilities, rent, and food.
During the CMA Music Festival, I crashed five fan club parties and I was pleased to discover a chilled-out country star at each and every one. None of the singers seemed in any hurry to get off the stage, and in a few cases, they played a couple of new songs that nobody else has heard yet. To a fan, that’s a golden opportunity and worth the price of a fan club membership. That, and a rare chance to get a photo with your favorite artist.
Joe Nichols didn’t have to apologize for his sense of humor - that guy is hilarious. I didn’t realize he was living in East Texas now. He said that since he got married, all kinds of things are disappearing from his house. (At this event, his wife strongly encouraged him to give away his favorite T-shirt to a fan that’s seen 100 shows.) He also unearthed some new material, which I think his fans will certainly find worth the wait.
